Dear Friends,
After more than 25 years of service in the Greater New York area, one constant that I’ve observed is that by changing a leader you also change multiple lives. When you add to that the opportunity to change thousands of leaders in New York City, the impact can be exponential. Why? Because New York City is the world’s leading global city.
The seed of the idea for The New York City Leadership Center was planted at the 2005 Willow Creek Leadership Summit. The concept paper was drafted in January 2006 and the organization was formalized in 2007. During 2007 and 2008, a team of National Advisors, Strategic Partners, and Presidential Council members were invited to help shape the structure and strategy of the Center. We publicly launched the organization in September 2008 with several leadership gatherings.
The past 12 months we have achieved the following:
• Rick Warren spoke to 1,500 leaders at the launch event in
September 2008
• Bill Hybels spoke to 200 leaders on “Leading in Ferocious Times” in
April 2009
• Nearly 2,700 leaders attended The Leadership Summit at 9 sites in
August 2009 in Metro NYC – the largest participation of any region
in North America
Collaboration
• 31 new churches were planted in 2008 in collaboration with Redeemer Church Planting Center and 10 denominational partners
• 200 churches began the adopt-a- school process as we collaborated with the Coalition of Urban Youth Workers on the 20/20 Vision for Schools initiative
• 500 children were sponsored in partnership with World Vision
• 200 churches participated in the 40 Days of Love campaign in Lent 2009, a collaboration with Saddleback Church
• 200 marketplace leaders participated in the Downtown Fellowship & the Midtown Fellowship monthly gatherings
Looking ahead to the next 12 months – we are looking forward to growing our existing training and collaboration opportunities as well as launching the Half Time Venture workshop and the new NYC Leadership Fellows Program, which will provide a unique 9-month training opportunity for Christian non-profit and ministry leaders. We also look forward to introducing the Lifework Leadership 9-month course to marketplace leaders.
