Sider’s addition will enable Dr. Pier to focus attention toward the initiation of national and global Movement Day efforts as its director, and his role as Senior Associate for Global Cities with The Lausanne Movement. Dr. Pier will continue to direct the Strategic Partners Alliance and maintain oversight of the NYCLC’s expanding collaborative partnerships.
Though newly appointed, Sider is certainly not a newcomer to the NYCLC. In early 2008, he and another ministry leader met with Pier to brainstorm the strategy and implementation of a faith-based leadership center in New York City. The NYCLC was officially launched later that same year. Thus, having been involved in the initial thinking process that led to the Center’s creation, Sider feels joining the NYCLC team is “God’s will, coming full circle.”
Born into a family immersed in both ministry and business, Sider’s desire to reach people for Christ developed early on. In 1985, he served as founding pastor of The Meeting House in Oakville, Ontario, where he and his wife, Laura, worked to build a vibrant community committed to sharing Christ’s message. Beginning in 1996, Craig served as bishop in the Brethren in Christ U.S., a post he held until early 2009. He served most recently as a team leader in BIC Canada, where he was responsible for new brand and new church development. Along with his significant leadership duties, Sider is a frequent seminar presenter and writes regularly on the topics of outreach and leadership development.
Following a degree in Business Administration/Economics from Brock University, Craig completed a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary and a doctorate in leadership development from Denver Seminary. Sider is known as a visionary and someone capable of identifying, developing and maximizing leadership skills in others.
“With his passion for developing great leaders and creating organizations that have a positive impact,” said Pier, “I have no doubt Craig will be a tremendous addition to our team. He embraces life with a passion and optimism. More importantly, he has a deep desire to reach people for Christ.”
Craig and Laura have three children and recently welcomed a new granddaughter into their lives, becoming first-time grandparents. Craig and Laura also are looking forward to moving to, and ministering in, New York City.
